Student Groups Come Together to Promote Tolerance
by Arash Jahanian

Tolerance is the message on the UNC-CH campus this week.

The Campus Y's Students for the Advancement of Race Relations is working with other groups to promote racial togetherness.

Race Relations Week encourages people to get to know different cultures and races, not just to put up with them.

Meanwhile, the Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgendered-Straight Alliance is sponsoring National Coming Out Week.

Events such as an ice cream social are generating an atmosphere designed to help make students more comfortable with being open about their sexuality.

The two groups hosted a talk Monday by Rebecca Walker, an activist who spoke about racial and sexual identities.

National Coming Out Day is Friday. For a list of the activities for Coming Out Week on campus click here.
